Regarding the Joy of Others29 September, 2009 - 3 October, 2009She stands stark against the skyline – the vast frame of Brisbane’s iconic Gasometer. Within this gigantic cage, a woman waits…
This September, the strange and misunderstood Gasometer will mesmerize and awe audiences as three of Brisbane’s most innovative artists transform the industrial structure into Circa’s latest performance installation, Regarding the Joy of Others. High above the audience and surrounded by jagged metallic peaks, trapeze artist Chelsea McGuffin will twist, float and fly during a performance installation directed by Circa Artistic Director Yaron Lifshitz. Sound artist and Room40 Director Lawrence English will accompany the aerial act with deep pulses of sound, soaring melodic passages and powerful washes of bass, causing the audience to experience the woman’s pain and sheer joy. Regarding the Joy of Others is a transcontinental series of events, each featuring an extended solo trapeze routine, a soundscape and visual environment. Presented by Circa and FKP, Regarding the Joy of Others was performed for the first time as part of the Brisbane Festival 2009 at the Gasometer from 29 September to 3 October. ![]() |
